Saint George Island Lighthouse and the marshes. 

I was waiting for Becky and Matt to come back to shore from their kayaking trip.  The beach that they paddled back to was along a marsh with some really cool birds, and a unique view of the lighthouse on the island.  

Dolphins.....I think?

Dolphins @ SGI

First off, they are dolphins and not sharks. Saint George Island has a large number of dolphins that swim up and down the sandbar.  The one thing I always try to get are pictures of the dolphins at the beach.  Every time I set up the perfect picture something happens.  History has repeated itself once again, so I was only able to get one shot of the dolphins.  I would have had some better pictures, but the battery died as soon as the dolphins showed up.  Lesson learned - I need another battery. 

In this picture, you can see two adults and one little fin.  They were actually pretty close.  Perhaps next time I will be able to get that perfect picture.

On this particular trip, we saw many pods of dolphins and a sea turtle on her way to lay her eggs on the island.

As the sun goes down....

Bayside Sunset @ SGI 

One of the great things about an island is that the sun rises over the ocean on the east side of the island and the sun sets over the bay on the west side of the island. There is always a great view, and you can always count on a great sunset.   

A Dog. A Day. A Beach.

The best travel companion. 

 Icheb 2009 @ SGI

I started this blog a few weeks after my trip to Saint George Island, Florida where I took a week of relaxation from my students this summer.  I love spending time on the beach just relaxing and soaking up the sun, as does Icheb as you can plainly see. 

 I spent the beginning of the week just Icheb and myself, which is why I labeled this post as "A Dog. A Day. A Beach".  When you are on an island, you avoid those things you strictly do at home, and focus on yourself, a good book, and a furry friend  who wants you to throw the ball.
